Eine empfangene eMail im Thunderbird hat einen Link zu einer Internetseite. Die eMail ist eine HTML-eMail und dem zufolge ist der Link auch klickbar - im Gegensatz zu reinen Text-eMails. Man klickt im Text der eMail auf den Link und nichts passiert.

Eigentlich sollte Firefox starten und den Link öffnen. Im Falle von Linux ist Firefox in KDE oder Gnome als bevorzugter Browser angegeben und im Falle von Windows ist Firefox im System als bevorzugter Browser konfiguriert. Und trotzdem - Firefox startet nicht bzw. im geöffneten Browser (im aktiven Tab) wird die URL des geklickten Link nicht übernommen. Was tun?

Hier die Lösung.

Linuxversion-Anwender:

Im Homeverzeichnis "/home/ein-beliebiger-user" den unsichtbaren Ordner ".thunderbird" öffnen. Darin befindet sich ein Ordner mit der Bezeichnung "abc123.default". Die Bezeichnung "abc123" steht für eine beliebige Ziffern/Buchstaben-Folge.

Hinweis:

Der unsichtbare Ordner ".thunderbird" in den Homeverzeichnissen der einzelnen User existiert erst, nach dem diese Thunderbird das erste Mal gestartet haben.

Nun ermitteln, wo sich Firefox befindet:

whereis firefox

ergibt bei mir

/usr/bin/firefox

Ich habe Firefox manuell als gepacktes Archiv in "/opt" installiert und einen Link von "/opt/firefox/firefox" nach "/usr/bin/firefox" angelegt. Bei anderen Distris kann Firefox anders installiert sein.

Nun in "abc123.default" die Datei "prefs.js" öffnen und folgende Zeile eintragen:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/bin/firefox");

Wenn diese Zeile bereits existiert ist vermutlich nur der Link zu Firefox anzupassen.

Windows-Anwender

tragen z. Bsp. folgende Zeile ein:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "C:\Programme\Firefox-1.5\firefox.exe");

Eventuell existiert diese Zeile bereits und der angegebene Pfad zum Browser stimmt nicht. Das kann nach der Installation einer neuen Browserversion der Fall sein. Insbesondere dann, wenn die neue Browserversion nicht mit einem Installer sondern als gepackte Version installiert wurde.

Datei sichern und gegebenenfalls Thunderbird neu starten. Nun werden Link's in eMail's mit dem Firefox geöffnet. Dieser Eintrag ist bei allen Usern durchzuführen.

Eine generelle Möglichkeit, diesen Eintrag sozusagen systemweit in Thunderbird vorzunehmen habe ich noch nicht gefunden.

Das hier Beschriebene gilt so auch für andere Browser wie beispielsweise Mozilla oder Dillo oder was auch immer der bevorzugte Browser sein sollte.
